For Freny, life is all about presence, finding comfort in routine and joy in the smallest moments. Born with Down’s Syndrome, she learned, very quickly, to express herself through gestures, smiles and an eagerness to be helpful.
Freny lost her father, a Parsi priest, at a young age and within a few years, her mother too passed away. The last straw was being asked to leave the institution for special needs children on crossing the age limit. This left behind a void that only her sister could fill. But even love has its limits when weighed down by life’s challenges. As her sister struggled with her own health, family and financial needs, she knew she could not devote herself to Freny alone.
Then came Ahura Support, offering a home, a new beginning and the promise of the best of both worlds – her natural family and the family she would make here.
At Ahura Support, she found more than just a place to stay. She found purpose. Freny has always been a happy child, who loves company. Though non-verbal, she quickly became an essential part of the Vocational Training and Day Care Centre, where she honed her skills and contributed to the production team. She found joy in helping with daily chores, keeping her surroundings neat and clean, and most importantly, in being a part of a community that valued her presence.
All this while enjoying the right to go home whenever she pleased. Her love for shopping, grooming and dressing up shines through, her radiant smile an ever present reminder of her inner joy.
At Ahura, Freny is not just cared for, she is seen, included and empowered. For Freny, Ahura Support isn’t just a home, it’s the family that was waiting for her.
