Parent Support Groups

A circle of strength, understanding and lifelong support

Caring for a differently abled child brings unique questions, challenges and emotions. Parents often wonder if they are making the right decisions or where to seek guidance, and many worry about their child’s future care. No family should face these concerns alone. Ahura Support offers a safe, compassionate space where parents can find guidance, share experiences and connect with others who truly understand. Through expert-led workshops, interactive sessions and emotional counselling, families gain confidence, practical knowledge and the reassurance of a community that cares.

Why parent support groups matter

  • A safe and supportive community – A non-judgemental space for sharing concerns, challenges and moments of joy.
  • Access to experts and resources – Guidance from psychologists, therapists and educators offering clear, practical support.
  • Empowerment through knowledge – Workshops on therapies, government benefits, emotional resilience and long-term planning.
  • Strength through connection – Opportunities to bond with families on similar journeys, building lasting friendships.

Parenting a differently abled child requires strength and patience. Our Parent Support Groups ensure every family has a reliable circle of support.

What we offer

Expert-led talks & workshops

Understanding the needs of differently-abled children requires ongoing learning. Our workshops bring together experts who equip parents with practical tools and insights. Topics include behavioural development, therapy options (yoga, art, speech, music), communication strategies, legal rights, government schemes and transitioning into adulthood. Sessions also address caregiver mental health, future planning and managing stress. These talks provide clarity, boost confidence and help parents make informed decisions for their child's growth. They also encourage a sense of empowerment and connection, reminding families that support and guidance are always within reach.

Peer support & knowledge sharing

Our peer support groups offer a comforting space for parents to connect with others who understand their journey. Through open discussions and shared experiences, parents exchange insights, advice and encouragement. Experienced families offer mentorship, while group interactions foster community and emotional relief. These sessions help build friendships and a network of support, creating a sense of belonging. Parents also gain access to special educators and therapists, enriching their knowledge and resources. Over time, these relationships evolve into a dependable support system, helping families navigate both daily challenges and long-term decisions with greater strength and confidence.

Family-oriented activities & social gatherings

Our family events are designed to bring joy, bonding and inclusion of families of differently-abled individuals. These gatherings offer parents and children opportunities to relax, participate and build happy memories together. Events include picnics, inclusive festival celebrations, creative workshops like art and music and therapy days that involve both parents and beneficiaries. Highlights like the Annual Sports Day create moments of celebration and shared pride. These activities reduce feelings of isolation and foster a connected, caring community. Through laughter, interaction and collective joy, families find not only support—but also a sense of being seen, valued and embraced.

Counselling & emotional support

Caregiving can be emotionally demanding. Our counselling programme provides a safe, non-judgemental space where parents can express concerns, grief and hopes. Trained therapists offer one-on-one support, guidance and strategies to manage stress and avoid burnout. Sessions also focus on emotional wellness, resilience-building and transition planning for long-term care. We understand the toll caregiving can take, which is why emotional healing and self-care are central to our support. By prioritising mental well-being, we help parents maintain balance, find strength in vulnerability and continue their journey with renewed hope and reassurance.
